Biography: Encouraged and taught by his artistic family, primarily his draughtsman father, Christiaan Andriessen joined the Amsterdam drawing academy in 1790. After the school refused to allow the study of female nudes, Andriessen and his father founded a college in their home. During the years between 1805 and 1808, Andriessen devoted his energy to his journal that contained seven hundred drawings and watercolors that depicted the city’s activities.
