Biography: What little is known of Bartolomeo Veneto’s life is drawn from signatures, date, and inscriptions on his paintings. He began as a painter of small, religious paintings, probably studying under Gentile Bellini. Other training came from copying works by Bellini and other Italian masters. From 1505 to 1508, Bartolomeo worked at the Este court in Ferrara and painted in the Renaissance style. He also became a sought-after portrait artist in Milan, and worked with the influence of fellow Milanese portraitist, Leonardo da Vinci.
