Biography: Born in Russia, Eugene Berman fled the Russian Revolution in 1918 and moved to Paris. While there, he encountered a group of painters called the Neo-Romantics and began to work in their dreamlike style. Berman moved to New York in 1935 and became an American citizen two years later. While in the United States, he worked mostly as a stage designer for ballet and opera.
