Biography:
Originally a lawyer, Jan de Bisschop began a painting studio in The Hague without any formal training in 1652 and later founded a drawing school. De Bisschop’s landscapes were most influenced by Bartholomeus Breenbergh, imitating his use of sunlight in his ink washes. He also made figure studies, referencing classical sculpture and Italian paintings.
