Biography: A French cloth-merchant, Louis Desire Blanquart-Evrard learned the calotype process from a student of its inventor, William Henry Fox Talbot. He became the first to publish the instructions of the process in France in 1847. Blanquart-Evrard primarily printed and distributed other photographers’ portfolios. However, his major contribution occurred in 1850 when he introduced the albumen paper print technique. After his invention received much attention and success, he established to Blanquart-Evrard Printing Company to mass-produce other artists’ prints.
