Biography: The director of one of the most central pottery workshops in Sparta, the Boread Painter decorated vases in the black-figure technique and may have also been a painter. His real identity is unknown, but his work is typified by his way of drawing the facial features of his figures and also the band of pomegranates encircling the interior pictures of his pieces. The Boread Painter received his name from an image of the sons of Boreas on one of his cups. He is thought to only have decorated cups as opposed to the larger vases that were popular in Ancient Greece.
