Biography: The painter of over two hundred vases and cups, the Brygos painter was a prolific re-figure decorator who worked in the early 400’s BC. He learned his technique from Onesimos and in turn, influenced many later Greek artists. The Brygos Painter produced genre and mythological themes, favoring symposia, athletes, and Achilles. He also used glazes to create three-dimensionality and shading, a technique that makes his work distinctive. Although his real identity is unknown, he is named after the potter, Brygos, with whom he worked. Some academics think that they are the same person.
