Biography: Originally named Buonamico di Martino, Buffalmacco acquired his nickname, meaning jester, for his reputation as a practical joker. Although no surviving works are definitely attributed to the artist, documents attest to his celebrity and reputation as one of the finest artists of the early 14th century.
