Biography: An early and enthusiastic interest in art led to Jacques Callot’s apprenticeship to engraver Philippe Thomassin. He also trained by copying Flemish art and late Mannerist works. Callot began work for the Medici court in Florence in 1612. In 1621, he returned to work for the Lorraine court in Nancy and depicted daily life in his native city. He also began to produce religious scenes and landscapes.
