Biography: Bernardo Cavallino was born in Naples and began working there for art dealers and various patrons. Little is known about his short life. He specialized in small religious paintings on canvas and copper, often of Old Testament subjects, saints, and Roman mythology. He was influenced by many sources, including works of Spanish, French, Netherlandish and Italian artists. Most likely, Cavallino died of the plague in Naples in 1656. Only eight of his attributed paintings and four drawings still exist.
