Biography: Originally from Lombardy, Cesare da Sesto is thought to have studied in Rome with Balsassare Peruzzi beginning in 1506. It was during this time that he came into contact with Raphael. Cesare then traveled to Milan, where his paintings began to infuse the influences of Raphael and Leonardo. After traveling throughout southern Italy, Cesare settled in Naples and Messina in 1514 and remained there for six years, perfecting and teaching his High Renaissance style. He then returned to Milan and established a successful workshop that recieved many commissions up until his death in 1523.
