Biography: Bartolomeo Cesi was born into a wealthy family and received his training from Nosadella. Cesi adopted the strict beliefs of the Counter Reformation while working on the apse and crypt of the Bologna Cathedral. He believed his work was solely for the promoting Roman Catholic doctrine and exercising his strict faith. Cesi founded a second Bologna painter’s guild in 1599 with his colleague, Ludovico Carracci. He became the Accademia delgi Ardenti’s drawing master in 1620. Cesi’s painting were profoundly influenced by his religion and emphasized clarity and strength of message.
