Biography:
Lovis Corinth studied with Bougereau in Paris but was equally influenced by Courbet, Manet, Rembrandt, and Rubens. He returned to his native Germany and settled in Berlin in 1901. He was credited with spreading the ideas of Impressionism to Germany and consequently enjoyed a great deal of success and recognition. After suffering from a stroke in 1911, Cornith’s work took on a more Expressionist approach.
