Biography:
Before adopting the name of his birthplace, Correggio was known as Antonio Allegri. His initial plans were to become a physician and surgeon, studying anatomy under Giovanni Battista Lombardi. He worked on the Convent of San Paolo and the Cathedral in Parma beginning in 1518. He was the first artist in Italy to paint the inside of a cupola, the first of which was called The Ascension. He often focused on biblical and mythological subjects.
