Biography:
During his early career, Jan Cossiers traveled throughout Italy and France and served two apprenticeships. He settled in Antwerp in 1627 and became a master in the Guild of Saint Luke a year later. Cossiers collaborated with Peter Paul Rubens in the late 1630’s, executing multiple paintings from Ruben’s designs. He later painted religious narratives for churches that were noted for their subtle color and expressive subjects.
