Nationality: Italian

Media: Iluminator

Biography: Taddeo Crivelli is thought to have been a student of Pisanello, although his miniaturist style of illuminating was similar to the northern Italian artists like Mantegna. He is credited with bringing the Renaissance style into manuscript painting in Ferrara. Crivelli’s workshop produced many projects, including several books for wealthy patrons and religious institutions. From 1455 to 1461, he and Franco dei Russi headed a team of artists to illuminate the two-volume Bible of Borso D’Este, one of the greatest pieces of Italian manuscript illuminations. When Duke Borso died in 1471, Crivelli moved to Bologna and worked occasionally until his death eight years later.
