Biography:
Maurice Cullen was an Impressionist painter credited with introducing the movement to his native Canada. He lived in Paris from 1889 to 1895, making trips to many locations in Europe and North Africa while overseas. In 1902, he settled permanently in Canada and painted city scenes in Montreal and landscapes along the St. Lawrence River. Later in his career, he traveled to his birthplace, St. John’s in Newfoundland, and also to the Rocky Mountains to paint the scenery. He retired in 1920, living at his cabin in Lac Tremblant in the Laurentian hills.
