Nationality: British
Movement:
Media: Painting
Influences:
Biography: Alan Davie served in the British army and worked as jazz musician before taking up a career in the arts. He was inspired by a trip across Europe from 1948 to 1949 during which he encountered the work of Jackson Pollock and other Abstract-Expressionist painters. He was one of the British artists to adopt the movement, but Davie also found other influences in African sculpture and Zen Buddhism. His international reputation was founded in the 1960’s and continues to date.
