Biography:
Piero della Francesca was born in Borgo San Sepolcro, Italy and lived there most of his life. He studied under Veneziano in Florence, and was strongly inspired by Donatello, Masaccio, and Uccello. After 1470, he abandoned art for his other interests in mathematics. Because of his slow and negligent working style, many of his commissions took long periods of time or were never finished. He received little to no recogniton until the 1800’s, when he was discovered to be one of the important artists of the Renaissance.
