Nationality: French
Movement: Abstract Expressionism

Biography: Born in LeHavre, France, Jean Dubuffet studied at the Academie Julien in Paris. However, he soon tired of their teaching, and began to explore on his own. He combined found objects with rough textures and thick paint to create naïve looking works which he called Art Brut, meaning raw art. Although he was often ridiculed, his art influenced the development of Pop Art and neo-Dadaism in the 1960’s.
