Biography: Cornelis Dusart was born in Haarlem to a church organist. Dusart was trained by Adriaen van Ostade, whose scenes of peasant Dutch life appeared in his student’s paintings until his death. Dusart then took ownership of van Ostade’s and his brother Isack’s works and reworking and selling them. He also finished some of Jan Steen’s works. Dusarts’s paintings of tavern activities were more satirical that allegorical and later influenced Dutch caricature.
