Biography:
William Faithorne first fought as a Royalist in the Civil War and then was exiled in France. During this time, he worked with Nanteuil. He returned to London of 1650 and established a reputation as a portrait head engraver. He also engraved the work of painters such as Van Dyck, Dobson, and Lely. In 1662, he published a translation of Bosse’s The Art of Graving and Etching, the first English manual published on engraving.
