Biography: Giuliano Finelli first learned to carve marble from his uncle who was a stonecutter in the quarries at Carrara. He accompanied his uncle to Naples at the age of ten and began his formal training in a prominent workshop. Finelli moved to Rom in 1622 and began working with Bernini. Seven years later he had established himself as an independent sculptor and received commissions for statues of saints and portrait busts. He created thirteen bronze sculptures for a chapel in San Gennaro.
