Biography: Hippolyte Flandrin was a pupil of Ingres. He won the Prix de Rome in 1832 and was influenced by the decorative arts while in Italy. He returned to Paris in 1838 and became a leading muralist. He painted works at famous churches such as St. Vincent-de-Paul and St. Germain-des-Pres. He also painted portraits, mythological and historical works.
