Biography: Son of Frans Francken I, the namesake was first an apprentice to his father and then studied in Paris with his uncle. He joined the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke in 1605. Francken was known for his small cabinet paintings that featured historical, mythological, or allegorical themes. He also created altarpieces and decorated furniture panels. Later in his career, Francken began focusing on genre subjects. He established a prolific studio where copies of his works were made and sold.
