Biography: Fernando Gallego painted altarpieces and religious works in late 15th century Spain, mixing Spanish and Netherlandish influences. He was admired for his ability to paint dramatic human expression. One of his last and most respected commissions was the ceiling of the University of Salamanca’s library, which depicted the constellations and zodiac signs.
