Biography: Born Benvenuto Tisi, his nickname Garofalo is said to come from his habit of incorporating a gillyflower in the corner of his paintings. He visited Rome twice where Raphael influenced him. He was the first to bring the master’s style to Ferrara. Garofalo produced many frescos, altarpieces, devotional works, and some mythological paintings.
