Biography:
Luigi Garzi began working in the studio of Andrea Sacchi at the age of fifteen. During this period, Garzi developed the classical style of his master and kept the influence throughout his career. He is best known for his large works and frescoes in Roman and Neapolitan churches. Garzi’s style evolved with the period but classicism always remained at the core of his practice. Luca Giordano, Francesco Solimena, and Carlo Maratta influenced his late work. He joined the Accademia di San Luca at Rome in 1670 and became the president twelve years later.
