Biography:
Jacopo Liogozzi influenced Giovanna Garzoni’s early work. She had a very successful career as the one of the first women still-life artists and her work sold for high prices. One of her earliest pieces was a calligraphy book that was published in 1625 and was illuminated with fruits, flowers, birds and insects. Garzoni painted botanical and zoological specimens for the Medici Court. In 1666, she drafted a will that left all of her assets to the Roman painter’s guild and the Accademia di San Luca.
