Biography: Bernardino Gatti began his career by studying the work of Correggio. In 1543, he began working in Piacenza, completing Pordenone’s frescoes in a church dome. He later moved to Cremona and was summoned to produce a large religious fresco that contained contemporary noblemen and biblical characteristics. Gatti then moved to Parma to work on a major church cupola with Bartholomaeus Spranger as his assistant. Right before his death in 1576, Gatti returned to Cremona to paint an altar for the city cathedral but passed before he could finish it.
