Biography: Giulio Romano was born in Rome at around the turn of the 15th century. He began working for Raphael in the Vatican in 1515 and became his favorite assistant. When Raphael died five years later, Giulio was given his workshop and the task to complete his unfinished works. He became court painter and architect for Federigo Gonzaga in 1524. He lived the rest of his life in Mantua where his most important work was the decoration of the Palazzo del Tel from 1527 to 1534.
