Biography:
Jeremiah Gurney first opened a daguerreotype studio in Brooklyn, New York City in 1840 and exhibited his work at local fairs for the following ten years. He exhibited at the Crystal Palace in London in 1851. Gurney then moved his studio to Manhattan and remained there for more than a decade. In 1853, he began using the newly invented paper process of photography.
