Biography:
German landscape painter, Jakob Phillip Hackert began working in Italy in 1768. He became the court painter to Ferdinand IV of Naples in 1786. He often painted famous sites, which were popular amongst the tourists. He upheld the traditions of landscape in his paintings, but also infused them with a Romantic sense. Hackert made the acquaintance of Goethe in 1787, who later edited and published the artist’s memoirs.
