Biography:
Frans Hals was born in Antwerp but raised and lived in Haarlem for most of his life. His mentors were Adam Van Noort and Van Mander. His early works are a mystery, but beginning in 1618, Hals’ painting show superior talent in portraiture. His most famous work is the Laughing Cavalier, a portrait that is slightly impressionistic. Hals’ later works are darker and calmer.
