Biography: Son of Hans Holbein the Elder, he studied with his father and then apprenticed to Hans Herbst. He moved to Basle in 1519 and got married and did mostly religious works. He moved to England in 1526 and began working as a portrait artist for clients such as Thomas More and Henry VIII. He worked officially for the latter from 1537 until his death, producing paintings of the king and his wives.
