Biography:
John Hoskins was the major figure in miniaturist painting from 1620 to 1640. His predecessor, Hilliard, greatly influenced his style. Later in his career, Hoskins began painting miniature versions of van Dyck’s large portraits. Hoskins popularity waned when his nephew and student, Samuel Cooper, emerged into the art scene.
