Biography: Jens Juel first studied in Hamburg before traveling from 1772 to 1779. During these years of exploration, he worked in Dresden, Rome, Paris, and Geneva. In 1780, he settled in Copenhagen and was appointed court painter. In addition, he worked as a teacher at the Academy but had little passion for the position. Juel preferred to paint landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, and flowers still-lifes.
