Biography: After an injuring streetcar crash, Frida Kahlo began painting to occupy her time during recovery. She then submitted her work to artist Diego Riveria, who she would eventually marry in 1928 and divorce 1939. Because of her husband’s temperament and infidelity, common themes in Kahlo’s work were the suffering and pain of women.
