Biography:
Charles de La Fosse began his training under Le Brun at Versailles, but he also learned to paint while in Italy. He was in the country from 1658 to 1663 and was strongly influenced by Baroque artist Pietro da Cortona and the northern Italian artists, Correggio and Veronese. La Fosse was in London from 1689 to 1692 where he was employed by the first Duke of Montagu to decorate the Montagu House. Following this project, he returned to France and decorated the dome and pendentives of the church of the Invalides.
