Biography: Edward Lear was an artist and author who is remembered mainly for his poetry. However, he earned his living as a draughtsman and painter. He was first employed by the Zoological Society but when his eyesight began to falter, he switched to topographical painting in watercolor and oil. Lear was also an avid traveler and published several journals of his trips. He finally settled in San Remo, Italy in 1871.
