Biography:
Claude-Nicolas Ledoux began his career in architecture working for the Department of Water and Forests in France. He then married the daughter of leading court musician, a merger that benefited him with many aristocratic connections and led to his becoming a fashionable Parisian architect. He was commissioned by Mademoiselle Guimard and Madame du Barry to design a theatre and pavilion. Ledoux later designed the wall that encircled the city.
