Biography:
Henri Lehmann was taught by his father and influenced by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1835 and won first prize in 1840, 1848, and 1855. He was a talented portraitist and received commissions for large-scale decorations. Lehmann became head of the Academie des Beaux-Arts in 1862 and taught Camille Pissarro and Georges Seurat while working there.
