Biography: Born in Germany, Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze lived in the United States from 1825 to 1841 and then returned from 1859 on. He is considered a member of the American School. His most famous painting is Washington Crossing the Delaware, completed in 1851 in Dusseldorf. He also painted portraits and landscapes.
