Biography: Dirck van der Lisse studied with Dutch Italianate artist, Cornelis van Poelenburgh. He and three other artists were commissioned by a Dutch Prince in 1635 to paint a series of works based on an Italian poet’s work. Van der Lisse moved to The Hague in 1639 and co-founded the painter’s society, Pictura. He became the city’s chief magistrate in 1660.
