Biography:
Born in Ireland, Daniel Maclise began working as a caricaturist and painter in London after 1827. He was a successful history painter, receiving impressive commissions for places such as the House of Lords. In caricature, he is remembered for his series of portraits of literary men and women. He also did some traditional portraiture, such as the painting of Charles Dickens located in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
