Biography: Piero Manzoni began painting in a traditional style and focused mainly on landscape. In 1956, he took a drastic turn towards abstraction and began producing his Achromes series. These paintings were white and textured pieces that owed their influence to Burri and Klein. After 1959, Manzoni’s work began more experimental and provocative. He is considered to be one of the inspirations for Art Povera and Conceptual art. He died at the age of thirty from cirrhosis.
