Biography:
Ernest Meissonier was a French painter who excelled in creating small-format historical paintings. His preferred historical subject matters were the Three Musketeers and the events of Napoleon’s campaigns. He was the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor in 1889. Meissonier was a conceited and disagreeable person and his best paintings were created when he was the most humble.
