Biography: Adam Frans van der Meulen moved to Paris from Flanders in 1664. He began as the assistant to Le Brun but was eventually made one of Louis XIV’s court painters. He specialized in military scenes, and went with the king in his campaigns. He also designed tapestries for the Gobelins factory that depicted accurate historical details of the battles. He also created paintings of hunting parties and landscapes.
