Biography:
Pierre Mignard studied under Vouet and was one of his most successful students. In 1690, he succeeded Le Brun as the director of the Academie Royale and became the first painter to the king. He also supported the Rubenistes in their fight against classicism of the Poussinistes. Mignard’s best paintings are portraits, many of the members of Louis XIV’s court.
