Biography:
John Minton began his career in Paris, where he stayed from 1938 to 1939 and worked in the same studio at Michael Ayrton. Other influences in Paris included Berman and Tchelitchew. In 1943, he set up in a London studio and remained there until moving in with Keith Vaughan in 1946. Minton painted in the Neo-Romantic style and also taught at the Camberwell School of Art, the Central School of Arts and Crafts, and the Royal College of Art. In addition, he traveled and produced a large body of paintings and book illustrations. After 1950, his work went out of style and his attempts to adapt to new fashions failed. Minton committed suicide in 1957 by drug overdose.
